How does one search Forms debase? - Internaut - Jul 31st, 2011 Hi, The Form Tool looks very inviting. Is there a module (can't see one here) that let's visitors to the site search the Form Tools debase? I wish to create a Form that will those with permissions enter data such as Venue, address, city, state, contact, phone, comments and store it in a MySql debase. For visitors, I would like a small form that would allow them to search the debase using any of the fields (city, state etcetera) and results would display all fields in a nice order. For example, assume there are are 5 entries, two for Texas, one for Idaho, one for Florida. Searching using "Texas" should show the results for all entries under Texas. While I await the reply, I will be installing Form Tools, and experimenting. Till, your reply, I RE: How does one search Forms debase? - Ben - Aug 2nd, 2011 Hi Internaut, Welcome to the forums! Very interesting idea! Right now, no, there's nothing "out the box" that would let you do it - but using the API, you can do quite a bit. For instance, the ft_api_show_submissions() function lets you show paginated lists of the form submission data in your own web pages. But it's not searchable, which is a pity... http://docs.formtools.org/api/?page=ft_api_show_submissions How important a feature is this for you? I must say, it would be a nice addition to that function to permit search criteria as well. I could then write up a tutorial on how to do it. Let me know. ![]() - Ben RE: How does one search Forms debase? - Internaut - Aug 3rd, 2011 (Aug 2nd, 2011, 9:21 PM)Ben Wrote: Hi Internaut, Very important. Presently, Google is being used but it's such a cumbersome way, and any search result of the dbase is a small map with a ton of flags for each 'place'. The site that will use Form Tools (FT) is the main source for well, sources. Several visits during a day look for sources in their city. I think I have it set so only those with permissions can enter data. That's the easy part thanks to FT. Reading the data and presenting it using search terms is the hard part. I must confess, I haven't done much with FT since first posting this. I intend to re-visit it today. I have been looking for a script that will read the dBase. I lost the link, now to find it again and see if I can't marry up the two. If you have a better idea - I'm all ears because I am very little knowledge of scripting. I RE: How does one search Forms debase? - Ben - Aug 4th, 2011 Heya, Okay - I'll take a look at it. I don't think it'll be too much work to add in the search options to the API function, and I think it will add a lot of value. Time-wise, I'm going to be pretty busy with one of our own clients this coming week, but I'll try to look at it soon. Getting the code done is only half the work, unfortunately - I'll also need to add a tutorial. If you haven't heard anything from me next, week send me a PM. - Ben RE: How does one search Forms debase? - Internaut - Aug 4th, 2011 (Aug 4th, 2011, 5:00 PM)Ben Wrote: Heya, I too feel it would add value. I can see a lot of national organizations using it to keep schedules in various citys up to date. Keeping places teams will be playing, when, time, and venue. Such things can be applied to many -events-. I feel access to data entry controled, but I think search should be open to a Admin selected choice:

I'd like to output some formtools data to the public and allow them to search for text in submissions. I'd like to output some formtools data to the public and allow them to search for text in submissions. I've not noticed any, and I've been searching for a good Forms program that will accept data from a form, and also, allow the dbase to be searched. I've bought several, tested them, and none can be adapted enough to let specified permission levels access to search dbase manage. If you have come across Form tool that lets admin set permissions to read the data via a simple search - I'd love to hear of it. Preferably one that would work with Ben's Form Tools. i RE: How does one search Forms debase? - moorezilla - Apr 28th, 2014 I'll definitely post back if I find anything. I think Ben is going to develop Form Tools again as well in the coming months, so maybe he'll develop this functionality if it's useful for enough people. |
