SSL forms question - rfcnola - Jan 16th, 2012

I hope this is a simple question as I'm a simpleton...

I'd like to use formtools with a registration form using SSL. I set up a test form and when the submit button is pressed Firefox presents the following message:

"Although this page is encrypted, the information you have entered is to be sent over an unencrypted connection and could easily be read by a third party.

Are you sure you want to continue sending this information?"

I haven't got a clue about what to do. Do some formtools files need to be placed in the SSL directory?

I couldn't find an answer searching the forums except for a reference to sending MySQL data using SSL but I'm too ignorant to know where the code snippet is placed in process.php.

Thanks for any help!

Robert

Hi Robert,

Haha, no no - web dev is very complicated, don't worry about it. Smile

Yes, Form Tools is perfectly compatible with SSL, but you have to to configure it. Is your SSL certificate for your entire site? In other words, can visit your Form Tools login page with https:// in the browser instead of the usual http?

If so, just update your global/config.php file so that the $g_root_url contains the secure "https://" protocol in the URL instead of the "http://"

Also, if your database is also secured, you'll need to add the following setting to your global/config.php file:
PHP Code:
$g_db_ssl true

Not sure if this helps, but let me know how it goes!

Thanks, Ben, that did the trick! Duh!

If I'd thought about it long enough eventually I'd have figured it out... maybe.

If you need to be PCI compliant, you'll need to edit one other place. I'm too lazy to look for my thread, so here's a copy/paste from my own files:

Quote:QUESTION:
In the source code of the FormTools Admin portal login page, is there anyway I can get the action URL to be absolute? I need to call it out using a secure protocol to maintain PCI Compliance.

ANSWER:
The only way to get it to show a hardcoded URL would be to edit this file:
[form tools root]/themes/default/index.tpl

And manually change the action from {$samepage} to your URL.

BEFORE: action="{$same_page}{$query_params}"

AFTER: action="https://www.yourdomain.com/formtoolspath/index.php{$query_params}"

Of course, be sure to change the URL to your URL and be sure that the "formtoolspath" above gets replaced with whatever folder you have formtools in, (it's /formtools/ by default).

There should be the people who wanted to reduce weight in natural way for them such blog are really useful and helping. The fast food is really effective for the human body and people should avoid to have it in quantity. The information https://www.researchwritingking.com/review-of-rushessay-com/ here about the weight reduction would be wise for others.
