Will upgrading 2.1.0 core kill dbase?

For example: I have FormTools2.1.0-beta-20110730 installed.
I see there is a new core, FormTools2.1.0-beta-20110808

Would unzipping and ftping with 'overwrite all' replace the older core w/out changing anything else?

No, the database won't be overwritten, just updated.

Exactly. This just updates your version - nothing else. FTP clients (all, I believe) are smart enough to do a merge when you copy over files. The upgrade zip file will only contain files that have changed. So when you FTP the files to your site, the client only overwrites those files that have changed, leaving the original ones intact.

Hi Ben,

Followed the FTP method, then tried to access Admin login. I was taken to the install setup and I stopped at the create a dbase prefix ext FT_.

I deleted the "install" folder that went in via the FTPup. And was then able to login.

Ah...! Just so you know, when upgrading the Core it's easiest to just click on the "Update" link within Form Tools. That passes all information about your installed components to the upgrade script which constructs an upgrade file (including API, modules, themes AND the Core). That file won't include the /install folder.

But the way you did it is totally fine too.
