I'm not a programmer but I don't mind getting my hands dirty. I've been using v1.5 for a little while now and it's been great.

I'm interested in using Form Tools to register new users with file upload, then modify their record with a comment field and allow the user to log back in to view comments.

First question is, how do I allow the user to retrieve only their record's comments using their username/pw? It's important that one user not see another's record info. Does each new record create a new client? Or can the client be "public" somehow?

Secondly, one of the forum post mentions a Paypal tutorial. I couldn't find it on your site. Could you point me to that please?

Sure, this is no problem - I actually did exactly the same set up for a client last month. Here's how to go about doing this (the remarks are pretty general, so post me back if you get stuck on any particular step):

1. Download and install the <a href="http://modules.formtools.org/submission_accounts/">Submission Accounts module</a>. What it does is convert a form submission into a basic user account, allowing the user to log in, view and edit their submission data. It works by letting you specify a username (often their email address) and a password field from your form. Users can only ever view their own submissions.

2. After you've added your form to Form Tools, manually add a new field called "Comments" (or something!) via the Edit Form -> Database tab. This will be used to store the custom comments about each person who submits the form + file. (Or, alternatively, add a hidden field to your form called "Comments" - then the Add Form process will know to automatically create the field).

3. Configure the Submission Accounts module for your form.

4. Create an email template for your form containing the login information for the user. Basically, this just entails using a couple of placeholders: the username field and the password field. The login URL for the users is the Submission Accounts module - you can find that info listed in the module. Set the email template to get listed on the Edit Submission page (this setting is found in the "Advanced Settings" of the Edit Email Template > Main tab). Now, when you edit the submissions, you'll see an option at the bottom right of the page letting you send that email to the user.

You're done! So, taking a step back, the entire process works like this:

(a) people submit the form, adding their submission to Form Tools for storage
(b) you log in to Form Tools as an admin / client, review the submissions / files and add comments to the new field. When you're done, you click the "Email" button to send the login info to the user, allowing them to log in and see your comments.
