Any way to easily link 2 forms together with a common field?

Not sure if this is already a feature, or something where I would have to edit the code myself to do this.

What I want to achieve is a way to link 2 forms together.

What I have is two forms.
Form 1: Mentor information
Form 2: Student information

What I want to do is to match a student with a mentor. So if you select a mentor, there will be a drop down list of all students (pulled from the student list) (vice versa on the other list).

Then once you select the student that matches to the mentor, there will be a link to the student info from the mentor information.

Any easy way to do this, or would I have to edit the code heavily?

This is something I've thought about a great deal and would like to implement for future versions, but right now I'm afraid it's not possible. At some point I'm going to be making an improvement called "Custom Fields" which will allow users to construct fields types with whatever information they want. I hope to allow it to be so generic you could use that field to link to information in other forms.
