Hi, I have the same problem. At first I had trouble changing the permissions - the log would say they were changed but then I would go in and they were set back to the original permissions. Later I tried again and now the permissions are set to full read and write and are not changing back. But I still get the error.
I am very new to this, so I'm wondering what I should even ask my hosting provider. Can you help me?

Hmm.. that error message should be pretty unequivocal. Which folder are you chmodding? It should be the default one (not any other theme):
/themes/default/cache
Failing that, you might want to run it by your hosting provider. It's possible that the permissions for the PHP process doesn't have permissions to write to the folder, but I've very rarely encountered that... still, it's my best guess!
