Error on form submit - Not showing Thank You page
#1
Hi everyone,

I have just installed Form Tools again for the umpteenth time. *heavy sigh*

Because I've had problems with upgrading, I've started over again with an older version (20090312) which worked before but broke after I tried to upgrade to 20090627. I've had nightmares since. I’ve even moved to another hosting service thinking that the host wasn’t providing some service that was needed – didn’t matter, same problems with the new host. It also doesn’t seem to matter what version I’m using – it’s happening on all versions.

I am using Direct Submit (not API), with the standard mailer (i.e., no Swift Mailer), and NO modifications - just a basic, standard install. The Admin email for Recipient is setup for “Custom”, and the User email for “Recipient” is set to “user, from the form submission”. They are both setup for Event Trigger of “On form submission”. I’ve ensured the “Configure Form Field Emails” is set to the correct fields. I do not have SSL. I do have PHP5, and here are my server particulars (basic, “shared” hosting):

=======================

cPanel Version 11.24.4-RELEASE
cPanel Build 36167
Theme x3
Apache version 2.2.11 (Unix)
PHP version 5.2.9
MySQL version 5.0.81-community
Architecture i686
Operating system Linux
Shared Ip Address 207.210.64.50
Path to sendmail /usr/sbin/sendmail
Path to PERL /usr/bin/perl
Kernel version 2.6.18-92.1.1.el5
.028stab057.2PAE
cPanel Pro 1.0 (RC1)
=====================

My Submission Form is a .html form with dropdowns, text, and radio buttons, no multi-selections. I’ve ensured the “Pass On” items are all checked.

My Thank You page is a .html.

I get a good install. I get the email saying I've installed. I can log into and add my Form just fine.

After everything is done and setup, I manually go to my Thank You page to end the sessions. I then try to submit a form. After submission, I *always* get these errors:

---------------------------------

Notice: Undefined variable: submission_date in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 209

Notice: Undefined variable: submission_date in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 214

Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php:209) in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 286

---------------------------------

Plus, if I don’t fill out every *RADIO* field, then I’ll get an error for it too (and no, I don’t have any but the email field set up for validation, but I don’t get errors on those or text or dropdown fields). I also don’t understand the reason for two errors on each field name?? Here are the errors for the non-filled-in Radio buttons:

---------------------------------

Notice: Undefined index: Want_listing_appointment in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 225

Notice: Undefined index: Want_listing_appointment in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 231

Notice: Undefined index: Call_Time in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 225

Notice: Undefined index: Call_Time in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 231

Notice: Undefined variable: submission_date in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 209

Notice: Undefined variable: submission_date in /home/mysite/public_html/f_tools/process.php on line 214

---------------------------------

Despite the errors, I always do get an Admin email notifying me of the form submission. I also get a User email. I have set up the emails using the regular templates. The emails are coming through despite the Thank You page not showing.

I am not getting any errors in my log (in cPanel). I’ve tried tweaking the “Properties” settings, from 644 up to 777, no joy. I’ve tried new uploads and upgrades; I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled countless times. I’ve downloaded new, fresh files – no joy. I’ve tried older versions and newer versions. I’ve tweaked on my form and tried different field naming – no joy.

I’ve beat my brains out on this for weeks now and cannot figure out this problem: Why am I getting the submission errors and not getting my Thank You page???

I am not a coder, and am just learning this stuff. I do like to try and help myself before asking for help – I’m just out of ideas and cannot figure out why this is happening. I’ve read the forums here, and even Googled these errors but cannot find any resolution.

I’m groveling for help: If anyone can help me figure this out, I will kiss the ground you walk on and worship at your feet. I would be most appreciative for any assistance at all. I’m willing to try anything! Thank you. :-)

Hey Just Me,

I so sorry you're having so many problems!! I really do feel bad. What you're doing is such a straightforward feature of the script (direct submission with default emails), I'm really very surprised you've had so much trouble. Sounds stressful as hell. I personally use Dreamhost as my hosting provider and have seldom encountered problems, but it really should run anywhere.

The reason you're probably not getting any errors in your cpanel is because they're not actually errors - just nit-picky warnings / notices that PHP outputs in case it finds something that's not 100% expected. In your case, when the form is processed it does what's called a "header redirect" to redirect the user to the "thankyou" page. However, this can ONLY work if there haven't been anything outputted to the stream at that point - and since the notices HAVE, the redirect won't work.

The error reporting level is determined by a Form Tools configuration setting - I deliberately set it to report on EVERYTHING while Form Tools 2 is in beta, but it really doesn't need to cranked up so high. During the Beta phase (which I admit, could go on for a long time yet) I wanted to hear of all these little notices so that I can fix them - they can sometimes indicate deeper problems which are helpful in debugging. And from a perfectionists point of view, I don't like that there are ANY issues with my scripts, even little ones.

Anyway, to turn the setting down, add the following line to your config.php file:

PHP Code:
$g_default_error_reporting 1

From now on, the script will only output genuine errors - not nit-picky things like undefined variables or stuff that won't actually cause actual problems.

I believe this will fix all of your problems.

Let me know.... and again, sorry, Just Me!

- Ben

Yes, all the guys must be helping me with the submission of the forms. The recurring error of the form and unemployed professors is a tool appearing for the forms. The submission is impossible for me on the page for the last many times and attempts.
