Field Type next step freeze

Hi, I am setting up a new form and get stuck at Add Form - Step 5 where I click on Next Step and it just freezes where the loading icon keeps animated and I get this error in a frame:

Debug:

Row size too large. The maximum row size for the used table type, not counting BLOBs, is 65535. You have to change some columns to TEXT or BLOBs

Hi 2timer,

Sorry you're having trouble! This is a 2.0.x installation?

The problem is that there are so many fields in your form, the database actually ran out of space. MySQL only allows for 65535 bytes per row in your table, so when you have a very large number of VARCHAR fields, it will cause an error when trying to create the table.

To get around it, go back to the page where you specify the field size for each field. Then, change a number of them to either Small (20 chars) or Large fields. ("Large" fields aren't stored as VARCHARS, so they're not included in the row size calculation), then try completing the form again. I'm afraid you'll need to keep doing that until the row size is reduced to under the limit.

Sorry, neither the error message nor error handling are terribly good for this particular situation.

Tried all your suggestions, still getting the MySQL error. I also have a large form (registration). Can't get past step 5

Finally got past this step. It took some time and patience on my part. Worked with each field individually and just kept trying until they all were able to pass the SQL test.

Hey Teamwebb,

Yes, it's a drag, I know... I spent ages trying to figure out a more elegant solution. Unfortunately, the SQL error returned by the server doesn't specify by how much the row is too large - and the math is surprising tricky, since the table charset influences the allocated space for varchar fields. I think there's a better solution somewhere, I just haven't found an approach.

Anyway, I hope the 2.1.9 update at least provides a better error message for the scenario.
