XLS export not UTF?

Excel export of form submissions shows all kinds of character mayhem in unicode characters. I'm correcting heaps of international submissions from abroad: germany, scandinavia and the like. Also Excel 2007 complains about damage on opening the generated file, but does open it.

I get the same error, but haven't figured out a solution yet.

Regarding the UTF-8 problem, try editing the export group via the Export Manager module and adding in the following line somewhere in between the <head> and </head> in the "Smarty template" field:

<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">

I think I remember reading somewhere in these forums that someone fixed it like that.
